The October Tampa Orchid Club meeting was a great gathering with a strong turnout and valuable insights for Florida orchid enthusiasts! We had the pleasure of hearing from Bret Ullery of Accent Orchids, who shared his expertise on cold-tolerant orchid varieties ideal for Florida's climate.
Bret offered tips on which orchids to bring indoors during colder weather and recommended holding off on watering if plants are left outside during a cold snap. For those unsure about cold tolerance, a bit of research can go a long way! Many Dendrobiums, certain Vandas like Neofinetia falcata, Cattleyas, and Brassavolas can generally handle cooler temperatures—just make sure to avoid frost exposure.
Our session included a helpful Q&A, covering a range of orchid care topics. Laurie Nissen also provided a quick refresher on etiquette for visiting greenhouses and vendors at orchid shows, with a friendly reminder that cash is always appreciated!
